This article describes how the doctors and staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital are on record as prescribing neuroleptic medication to control or render less able, patients to whom such medication is on record as aggravating heart and respiratory conditions. As you can see in the Safety Alert restricting the prescription of Risperidone here they issued a warning to healthcare professionals working in the following settings:
- Geriatrics
- Geriatric Psychiatry (two or more events occurred at RJH in the Geriatric Psych ward)
- Internal Medicine
- Extended Care Facilities
- Nursing Homes and Pharmacies
This notice was issued in 2015, so there is NO reasonable explanation for the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital to have been unaware of the restriction. Now I'll give you the fact that the restriction is worded like it was written by a 5th-grader or a drug-rep, because the notice totally buries the lead and shifts the object of the warning to Alzheimer's and thus burying the warnings against use in patients other than those with severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type.
Vascular dementia is problem whereby a person may suffer neurological degeneration, ot as the result of respiratory defects (not oxygenation), such as asthma or another such breathing problem, whereas Alzheimer's is a progressively degenerative condition whereby the patient's brain literally rots from the inside out, and is not the result of reduced oxygenated blood-flow to the brain. So, to recap the full video we're prepping to drop, we have the physician glancing at the chart, seeing a brief episode of Sepsis-associated Delirium, somehow equates that as a chronic condition of Alzheimer's, and tells the patient to take the prescribed Risperidone if she ever hears her neighbours making noise. If they do this to even a small fraction of the population, do you know what that means?
So either the prescribing physician (Dr Maskey) is ignorant, and acting in fashion that is criminally negligent, or she's well-informed, in which case she's acting in a fashion that is likely to cause grievous bodily harm. Both of these are criminal occurrences, and in both cases, you lose your license to practice medicine.
